where is Harsin?

Harsin is a city in the central part of Harsin city in Kermanshah province. People in the area speak Lori Laki. Harsin is one of the main districts of Lak Lur and somehow the capital of Lurs in Kermanshah province.

It is said that the name of the city is derived from the name of the princes of the Moon in Babylonian mythology.

The city is located 44 kilometers east of Kermanshah and is 1549 meters above sea level. Hersin is 566 kilometers from the country's capital. From a climate point of view, Harsin has hot summers and relatively cold winters. Spring is transient and short and the cold season is from December to March.

The maximum temperature in summer is 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature in winter is about 15 degrees below zero. The best way to reach this city is Harsin Nurabad Road.

Geographical information of Harsin quarry

Harsin quarry is located near Harsin town, about 26 km east of Kermanshah. Extraction and operation of this quarry has been in progress since 2000 and can be considered one of the largest mines in the region.

The extent of the Harsin quarry is so large that it can be said to be 13 times bigger than the city . The quarry is located in the northern part of the city and one of the ways to access it is the Shohada Street Road and then the rural road that goes north and vicinity of quarry.

To the west of the Bistoon Road and Sangharabad quarry, to the east of the aforementioned rural road, to the north is Sagha and Darake, and to the south of Hersin.

What kind of stones can be extracted from the Harsin quarry?

Creamy and crystallized microcrystalline limestone is related to Triassic units, extending from northwest to southeast with about 11 km of Kermanshah is radiolarian sandstone, marl, shale and chert units.

Due to tectonic and orogenic processes, the whole area has been mounted. Also, the presence of crystalline microcrystalline limestone floors with a simple bony cream and moderate to high metamorphism has led to conditions in which numerous quarries have emerged.

Mines from this area extract decorating stones. The secondary calcite veins within the quarry have led to a variety of designs in the rocks in what is commonly called the deerhorn marble in its market term.

The Asparagus Bridge facies is the dominant facies in the Harsin quarries. Interestingly, there are also fossils found in this quarries; Middle to Late Triassic fossils, including all kinds of rock fossils.
